Art thinking in science

Pushing the boundaries of the scientific method

Workshop at CNIC PhDay’17 – State of the Art

Art Thinking in Science is a workshop commissioned by PhDay’17, an annual meeting organized by PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC). Its aim was to generate a decontextualized, yet friendly, environment in which to debate and explore the blurring boundaries between art and science.

A series of actions and exercises were designed to allow participants to deconstruct their own preconceived commonplaces about creativity, originality, innovation, research processes, etc. and to jointly build up new ideas around them.

Collaboration between artists and scientists, transdisciplinar research processes, emotional vs. intellectual knowledge, the value of mistakes, surprise and emotion or science communication were some of the topics discussed.

Some materials used during the workshop.
